Mahkia is a Montana native, raised in the Sweetgrass Hills in north-central Montana. Mahkia attended North Toole County High School in Sunburst, Montana, where she was co-valedictorian of the 2011 graduating class. Mahkia received a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism (with a minor in Vocal Performance) from the University of Montana in 2015. Mahkia then produced the 5:30 and 10:00 newscasts for KPAX-TV, a CBS affiliate news station in Missoula, Montana, for four years. Mahkia received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Paralegal Studies from Missoula College (through the University of Montana) in November 2020 (and graduated cum laude). Prior to joining Bjornson Jones Mungas, Mahkia interned at Milodragovich, Dale & Steinbrenner, P.C., and worked as a paralegal for Jenks & Simpson, P.C. Mahkia is a Certified Paralegal through the National Association of Legal Assistants. She also serves as Vice President of the Montana Association of Legal Assistants and is a member of the Paralegal Section of the State Bar of Montana. Mahkia recently obtained her Master of Legal Studies degree through Washington University in St. Louis. Her hobbies include singing, reading, and spending time in nature.
